Ben’s Hens is a small-scale, family-run poultry operation based in Ortonville, Michigan. While the name comes from our son, Ben, it’s truly a team effort. Ben, who’s 8 years old, helps care for the flock when he’s not busy with wrestling, football, or baseball. Our daughter Janelle plays a big part as well—she’s often the one gathering and arranging the colorful cartons of eggs our flock produces.

We began our current flock in 2024, though our experience with chickens goes back several years on our former 10-acre farm. What started as a simple family hobby has grown into something we all take pride in: raising healthy, well-cared-for chickens and appreciating the variety and beauty they bring to every egg basket.

Our flock includes Black Copper Marans for both egg color and toward the breed standard, homozygous blue laying Cream Legbars for their cream plumage, Olive Eggers in multiple generations for their range of green tones, and a small group of Ayam Cemani, which we are focusing on for show purposes.

At Ben’s Hens, we focus on quality care, vibrant color, and the simple joy of sharing a truly colorful carton of eggs.
